Traditional Iroquois Three Sisters recipe passed down through generations. Substitute regular corn for hominy if desired.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups canned white or yellow hominy, drained
  • 2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
  • 2 cups peeled and cubed butternut squash
  • 1.5 cups diced peeled potatoes
  • 5 cups water
  • 1.5 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
  • Combine hominy, green beans, squash, and potatoes in a pot. Add water and chicken bouillon. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low until vegetables are soft, approximately 10 minutes. Mix flour into butter, then add to the soup. Increase heat to medium and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the soup thickens. Season with pepper and serve.
