Delicious casserole with rich bread and butter crust, creamy Cheddar cheese sauce, and buttery breadcrumb topping.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package elbow macaroni
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1.5 cups shredded white Cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices day-old bread, torn into small pieces
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • Heat a generous amount of salted water in a large pot until boiling. Cook the pasta for 8 to 10 minutes until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine. Stir in flour and ground black pepper to taste until it reaches a paste-like consistency. Gradually pour in milk, stirring constantly until it begins to thicken. Slowly add 1 cup of cheese at a time, stirring until all the cheese is melted.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Spread the cheese mixture over the macaroni and combine thoroughly before transferring to a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with bread pieces, season with salt and pepper, then drizzle the melted 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine over the bread. Bake in a preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Serve and enjoy!
