Classic sticky-sweet Toffee Apples - a timeless family favorite treat.
Ingredients:
  • 645.00 gm caster sugar
  • 12 small red apples
Instructions:
  • In a heavy-based saucepan, combine sugar and 1 1/2 cups of cold water over low heat. Stir continuously for 5 to 7 minutes until the sugar completely dissolves.
  • Raise the heat to medium-high and let it come to a boil. Cook without stirring for 35 to 45 minutes until the toffee hits the hard crack stage, brushing the sides of the pan with a water-dipped pastry brush to prevent crystallization.
  • Insert 1 paddle-pop stick into the top of each apple, then prepare a large baking tray by lining it with baking paper.
  • Take the pan off the heat and let it sit for 30 seconds to allow the bubbles to settle. Dip 1 apple into the toffee, gently tilting the pan to cover the apple. Hold the apple above the pan to let any extra toffee drip off. Place the apple on a prepared tray. Repeat this process with the remaining apples and toffee. Let them sit for 20 minutes or until the toffee sets.
