Spicy Korean street food: Chewy rice cakes cooked in fiery chili paste and savory soy sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 dried anchovies, or more to taste
  • 3 tablespoons chile paste
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 Korean fish cakes, sliced
  • 0.5 onion, thickly sliced
  • 1 spring onion, thickly sliced
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, simmer water and anchovies until fragrant. Let it cook gently for 10 minutes, then discard anchovies.
  • Mix together the chile paste, sugar, soy sauce, and corn syrup in a bowl to create a flavorful sauce.
  • Combine rice cakes and onion with the flavorful anchovy-infused water in the saucepan. Pour in the savory sauce and bring to a lively boil for 5 minutes, stirring every so often. Finish by adding spring onion and continue boiling for an additional 3 minutes; enjoy the enticing aromas as the dish comes together perfectly.
