Family-friendly Turkey Sloppy Joes made with lean ground turkey are a delicious and healthy dinner choice that kids love. Enjoy the messy fun with your little ones!
Ingredients:
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Soft hamburger buns, to serve
  • Coleslaw , to serve
  • DAD ADD:
  • Kettle potato chips
  • Pickled jalapeños
Instructions:
  • To make the vegetable mix, finely chop the onion, carrot, green pepper, celery, and garlic using a food processor or a sharp knife. Ensure there are no large chunks for a perfect sloppy joe mix. If not using a food processor, take your time chopping in advance and store in the fridge.
  • Start cooking the vegetables by heating olive oil in a medium to large saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced veggies and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until they soften, being careful not to brown them. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Place the ground turkey in the pot and break it up while stirring constantly. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes until the turkey is fully cooked.
  • Pour in the irresistible combination of ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar into the pot. Allow the mixture to gently simmer, then reduce heat and continue simmering for 6 to 8 minutes until perfectly thickened. For extra richness, simmer for another 5 minutes if a thicker consistency is desired. Don't forget to taste and season to your heart's content!
  • Serve the delicious sloppy joes generously piled on soft hamburger buns alongside coleslaw. Accompany with kettle potato chips and optional pickled jalapeños for added flavor.
