Swedish meatballs with lean ground turkey and light sour cream in a smooth, savory gravy - a lighter and delicious meal option.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 0.5 cup minced onion
  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 0.5 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (14.25 ounce) can low-sodium beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch salt to taste
  • 0.25 cup light sour cream
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and lightly coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  • In a small skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until softened, about 5 minutes. Allow to cool slightly for 5 minutes before using.
  • Mix together the onion mixture, turkey, bread crumbs, egg, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 1/2 teaspoon parsley, allspice, and nutmeg in a large bowl until well combined. Shape into 1-inch meatballs and place them in a baking dish.
  • Cook the meatballs in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until they are fully cooked, making sure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) when checked with an instant-read thermometer.
  • Combine beef broth and flour in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, then shake vigorously until the flour is fully dissolved.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine beef broth with 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 1/2 teaspoon parsley, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring often. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Gently stir in sour cream and meatballs. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes to meld flavors.
