Decadent chocolate walnut cookies dusted with confectioners' sugar and baked to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Cream together smooth shortening and sugar in a large bowl until combined. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt; fold into the creamed mixture. Optionally, incorporate walnuts. Cover dough and refrigerate for an hour.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Shape the dough into cute walnut-sized balls, then give them a sweet dusting with confectioners' sugar. Arrange the cookies 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, then let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
