Homemade copycat Burger King Chicken Fries - nostalgic childhood favorite crispy chicken strips now in new flavors. Recreate the excitement at home with this recipe.
Ingredients:
  • CHICKEN FRIES
  • 2 cups panko (Japanese-style breadcrumbs)
  • 1  tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. ground mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. kosher salt, divided
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 lb. chicken cutlets, thinly sliced into 1/3-in. wide strips
  • 4 cups vegetable oil
  • SPECIAL SAUCE
  • 3 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. hot dog relish (such as Mt. Olive)
Instructions:
  • Start by collecting all the ingredients needed for the recipe, then preheat the oven to 200°F.
  • In a food processor, pulse breadcrumbs until finely ground, about 10 times. Add cayenne, ground mustard, paprika, and 1 teaspoon salt; pulse briefly to mix.
  • Spread the breadcrumb mixture in a large shallow dish. Place the flour in another dish. Combine eggs and 2 tablespoons of water in a third shallow dish.
  • In batches, coat chicken strips in flour, dip in egg wash, and roll in panko mixture, pressing gently to stick.
  • Heat oil in a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Meanwhile, prepare the Special Sauce by mixing ketchup, mayonnaise, and hot dog relish in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Fry 3 to 4 strips at a time in hot oil without overcrowding the skillet. Cook until the breading turns golden brown and crispy, about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per batch, flipping halfway through.
  • Transfer the Chicken Fries from the skillet to a wire rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with a pinch of the remaining 1 teaspoon salt.
  • Keep the cooked chicken strips warm in the preheated oven as you continue frying the remaining strips. Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F by adjusting the heat. Once done, transfer the warm chicken strips to a serving platter and serve with the Special Sauce immediately.
