Try spooky Bugles® chocolate cupcakes topped with rich vanilla buttercream for the ultimate Halloween treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon orange paste food color
  • 24 fudge-striped shortbread cookies
  • 1 1/2 cups dark cocoa candy melts or coating wafers (9 oz)
  • 24 Bugles® snacks
  • Star-shaped candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Prepare, bake, and allow the cake mix to cool following the instructions on the box to make delicious cupcakes with water, oil, and eggs.
  • Combine powdered sugar and butter in a large bowl. Mix with a spoon or electric mixer on low speed until well blended. Add vanilla and 3 tablespoons of milk. Gradually beat in additional milk until frosting is smooth and spreadable. Adjust consistency by adding more milk if too thick or powdered sugar if too thin. Add orange paste food color to tint the frosting. Reserve 1/2 cup of frosting in a plastic bag for later use. Use the remaining orange frosting to generously frost the cupcakes.
  • Place a cookie, striped side down, on top of each cupcake. In a microwavable bowl, microwave candy melts on Medium (50%) power for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Dip snacks into the melted candy, place upright in the center of each cookie, and immediately add candy sprinkles for decoration.
  • Trim a small corner (about 1/8 inch) of the frosting bag. Use it to pipe frosting around the base of the chocolate-dipped snacks to create a decorative ribbon band.
