Lebanese za'atar bread: Delicious dough rounds coated in za'atar and olive oil.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F (43 degrees C))
  • 6 cups bread flour
  • 4 tablespoons za'atar
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast until dissolved. Stir in salt and 3 cups of flour. Gradually add the remaining flour, beating well after each 1/2 cup addition.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead it until smooth for about 10 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, ensuring it's coated with oil. Cover and allow it to rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to a sizzling 500°F (260°C).
  • Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape them into rounds. Roll out into 1/4-inch-thick circles and make small indentations with your fingers.
  • Combine fragrant za'atar with smooth olive oil in a small bowl. Spread the mixture over the circles and place them on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake in the oven until the dough turns a beautiful golden brown, which should take around 5 to 6 minutes.
