Homemade peppermint bark: a festive treat made with semisweet chocolate, white chocolate, and crushed peppermint candies. Perfect for gifting!
Ingredients:
  • 8 ounces high-quality semisweet chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon peppermint extract, divided
  • 8 ounces high-quality white chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 25 peppermint candies, crushed, divided
Instructions:
  • Grease a 9-inch square pan and line it with waxed paper, ensuring a smooth surface.
  • Melt semisweet chocolate with 1 teaspoon of canola oil in a double boiler over gentle heat. Stir often and scrape the sides down with a rubber spatula to prevent burning. Once melted, take off the heat and mix in 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract.
  • Spread the melted chocolate in the prepared pan evenly to cover the bottom. Sprinkle half of the crushed candy on top and refrigerate until fully hardened, approximately 1 hour.
  • In a double boiler, melt white chocolate with 1 teaspoon canola oil over low heat, stirring often to prevent burning. Once melted, take off the heat and mix in 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract.
  • Drizzle melted white chocolate over the chilled chocolate layer in the pan, ensuring even coverage. Sprinkle the rest of the crushed candy on top and lightly press down. Chill until fully set, approximately 1 hour.
  • Transfer the contents to a plate and crumble into bite-sized pieces before serving.
