Crispy, juicy, and delicious air fryer fried chicken with less fat. Satisfy your cravings in a healthier way.
Ingredients:
  • For the chicken:
  • 1 4-pound fryer chicken, cut into 10 pieces (2 breasts cut in half, 2 wings, 2 legs, 2 thighs)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • For the coating:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • Spray olive oil for cooking
Instructions:
  • Coat the chicken generously with salt and pepper and place it in a bowl of buttermilk, ensuring the chicken is fully immersed. Refrigerate for a minimum of one hour, ideally overnight.
  • Prepare the breading by mixing flour, seasoned salt, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Remove chicken from buttermilk, coat evenly with the breading mixture, and place on a plate or wire rack.
  • Prepare the chicken for air frying: Work in two batches if using a full chicken. Coat the air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Arrange half the chicken pieces in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch for proper air circulation. Lightly spray the chicken pieces with oil. Air fry at 350°F for 14 minutes, then flip using tongs. Spray the other side lightly with oil and continue cooking for 10-12 minutes until reaching safe internal temperatures of 165°F for white meat and 175°F for dark meat. If dry flour spots appear during cooking, lightly spray with oil to hydrate the breading for crispiness.
  • Let the fried chicken rest on a plate briefly before enjoying. Serve with salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, or your favorite sides. Refrigerate any leftovers for up to 5 days and reheat in a 300°F oven for 8 to 10 minutes. If you loved this recipe, please share your rating and review!
