Homemade meat sauce layered between tender pasta sheets with creamy ricotta, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 2.5 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 12 dry lasagna noodles
  • 1 pint part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your ingredients.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté ground beef, onion, and garlic for 5 minutes until browned; drain excess fat.
  • Combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, basil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and oregano. Let the meat sauce simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles for about 8 minutes until al dente, then drain and pat dry on towels.
  • Combine ricotta, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, eggs, parsley, and the remaining 1 teaspoon of salt in a medium bowl.
  • Start by gently laying down a generous portion of noodles to create a solid base in your 9x13-inch baking dish. Next, generously spread half of the delectable ricotta mixture over the waiting noodles, ensuring even coverage throughout.
  • Top the luscious ricotta mixture with a generous layer of half the mozzarella cheese and a tantalizing third of the savory meat sauce.
  • Create another layer by adding the remaining noodles and meat sauce, then finish with a generous sprinkle of 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese.
  • Place in the oven that has been preheated for 30 minutes. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes prior to serving.
