Savor family time with a cozy apple charlotte dessert for chilly days.
Ingredients:
  • 30g butter, melted
  • 4 fruit hot cross buns, each cut into 6
  • 400g can pie apple
  • 1 free range egg yolk, lightly beaten
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 240.00 gm pouring custard
  • 1.25 gm ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180C (160C fan-forced). Grease 6 x 1/2-cup dariole moulds with butter. Brush hot cross bun slices with butter, then place a slice at the base of each mould, butter side up, and wrap slices around the sides, firmly pressing the edges together to seal.
  • Combine the pie apple, egg yolk, and sugar in a bowl. Fill moulds with the apple mixture. Fold the overhanging ends of the bun over the apple filling and press down to seal. Place the moulds on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, top with another tray, and weigh down with cans for 10 minutes to create a firm pudding with a flat base.
  • Mix custard and cinnamon, microwave for 1-2 mins until warm. Invert molds onto plates and serve with warm cinnamon custard.
