Spiced cake mix cookies with applesauce for fall flavor, topped with rich browned butter-cream cheese frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Delights Super Moist™ Spice Cake Mix
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • Dash of salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the Cookie ingredients until combined. Use a 2-tablespoon scoop to drop the mixture onto cookie sheets, 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for around 10 minutes until the edges turn golden brown, tops are dry, and the cookies spring back gently when touched in the center. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to cooling racks. Ensure they are completely cooled before frosting.
  • In a small saucepan or skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it foams. Stir constantly until the solid bits turn dark brown and the butter smells like fragrant toffee. Remove from heat and pour into a heatproof dish to cool.
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend cream cheese and cooled butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and salt, then beat until well combined. Spread a generous amount of frosting onto the cooled cookies.
