Moist and chewy cinnamon walnut chocolate bar cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup applesauce
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 1.25 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 13x9 inch baking pan.
  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave or using a double boiler until smooth, stirring occasionally. Allow it to cool before using.
  • Cream together the shortening and sugar until smooth. Gradually beat in the eggs one at a time, stirring constantly until fully incorporated. In a separate bowl, combine applesauce, melted chocolate, and vanilla. Gently fold this mixture into the egg mixture until smooth.
  • Mix together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, then slowly incorporate into the batter. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts and spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan before cutting.
