Make delicious Aussie meat pies with beef, onion, and Worcestershire sauce filling.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cubes beef bouillon
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground pepper, or to taste
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup cold water
  • 1 (15 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts for a double-crust pie
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and butter a 12-cup muffin tin.
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown ground beef and onion until meat is crumbled and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease. Stir in water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, bouillon cubes, oregano, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, then let it simmer for 10 minutes until flavors meld.
  • Combine cornstarch and 1/4 cup of cold water in a bowl to create a smooth paste, then incorporate it into the meat mixture. Simmer until the mixture thickens, approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Cut the pie dough into 12 circles using a 4-inch biscuit cutter. Gently press each circle into a muffin cup to line it, ensuring the dough covers the bottom and sides. Spoon the meat mixture into each lined muffin cup.
  • Cut puff pastry dough into 12 circles using a 3-inch biscuit cutter. Place a circle on top of each filled muffin cup and press the edges to seal. Brush the pastry tops with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the crusts are golden brown and flaky. Allow the pies to cool in the muffin tin for about 10 minutes before removing.
