Generational homemade cream yogurt recipe with updated measurements for guaranteed success.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup plain yogurt, preferably Greek-style, with live cultures
  • 1 quart whole milk
  • 1 quart half-and-half
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
Instructions:
  • Place four clean cotton towels in a cross pattern on a work surface, with each end overlapping in the center. Place a large baking dish or glass mixing bowl in the middle of the towels.
  • Allow the plain yogurt to naturally come to room temperature as you work on the milk mixture.
  • In a large, heavy, non-aluminum pot, gently heat milk and half-and-half until it almost boils, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl. Enhance with 1 pint of whipping cream for extra richness.
  • Cool mixture to 112°F (44°C). Slowly mix 1 cup of warm milk into the yogurt, whisking constantly. Return mixture to bowl and stir well. Cover with plastic wrap and kitchen towels, letting it sit at room temperature until firm, about 8 to 12 hours.
  • Chill the yogurt in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight until completely cold.
