Baby Face Cake

Choose pink or blue cake for baby shower or gifting.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tube Betty Crocker™ red or blue classic gel food color (from 2.7-oz box)
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 1 can (8.4 oz) Betty Crocker™ Cupcake Icing petal pink or sky blue
  • 1 can (8.4 oz) Betty Crocker™ Cupcake Icing buttercup yellow
  • 1 large marshmallow, cut in half
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease the bottoms of 2 (8-inch) round cake pans with shortening or cooking spray. Prepare the cake batter following the box instructions, but enhance it by stirring in almond extract and adding 4 drops of red or blue food color with the water. Bake according to the box instructions for 8-inch rounds.
  • Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes. Gently run a knife around the edges of the pans to release the cakes, then transfer them to a cooling rack. Let the cakes cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Place one cake layer, with the bottom side facing up, on a serving plate. Spread half a cup of white frosting on top. Add the second layer on top and frost the side and top of the cake.
  • Pipe decorative icing around the bottom and top of the cake using a border tip and your choice of pink or blue icing. Use yellow cupcake icing to create a baby pacifier and hair. Use your favorite decorating icing to form the face and hair bow. Place a marshmallow half over the yellow icing to finish the baby pacifier. Store the cake loosely covered at room temperature.
