Hearty baked penne pasta with Italian sausage, tomato sauce, and melty mozzarella - a satisfying weeknight dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (12 ounce) package dry penne pasta
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 0.5 cup white wine
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with garlic
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook penne until al dente, about 11 minutes, then drain.
  • In a large, deep skillet, warm oil over medium-high heat. Cook sausage and onion until evenly browned. Drain excess fat. Add wine to deglaze the pan, scraping up the flavorful browned bits with a wooden spoon as it comes to a boil.
  • Swirl in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Let it simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring every so often.
  • Combine the cooked penne with the mixture and transfer it to a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle mozzarella on top.
  • Cook in the oven until the cheese is gooey and bubbly, usually around 20 minutes.
  • Enjoy while the dish is steaming hot!
