Baked Spiced Cake Donuts

Spiced cake donuts, moist and flavorful - a perfect fall treat!
Ingredients:
  • baking spray
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.25 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 extra large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously spray a 12-cup muffin pan with baking spray.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and kosher salt in a bowl and sift together.
  • Combine whisked applesauce, apple cider, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Gradually fold into the flour mixture until well combined.
  • Carefully transfer the batter into the pan, filling each cup to 3/4 of its capacity.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 17 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before removing.
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Brush both sides of donuts with melted butter, then coat in sugar-cinnamon mixture.
