Delicious ham and bean soup with savory ham bone, navy beans, carrots, and celery. Enhanced flavors after resting overnight.
Ingredients:
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 ham bone
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 0.25 cup minced onion
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 0.5 cup sliced carrots
  • 0.5 cup sliced celery
Instructions:
  • Give the beans a quick rinse, then place them in a large stockpot filled with water. Bring to a boil, simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 1 hour.
  • Combine the flavorful ham bone, diced ham, aromatic onion, and season with a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of pepper, and a fragrant bay leaf in a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat, cover, and gently simmer until the beans are tender, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Cook the carrots and celery until tender, around 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Take out the ham bone from the pot and let it rest on a cutting board until it cools down. Strip off any meat from the bones, chop it into bite-sized pieces, and mix it into the soup until heated through.
