Savory Asian beef and sausage filling in crispy fried wonton rolls, perfect with sweet chili dipping sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound bulk hot Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon Asian sweet chili sauce, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (16 ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.5 cup Asian sweet chili sauce, for dipping
Instructions:
  • Whisk together egg white and water in a small bowl; then, set it aside. Gently combine ground beef, sausage, 1 tablespoon sweet chile sauce, five-spice powder, garlic powder, green onion, salt, and pepper. Place a spoonful of the meat mix onto a wonton wrapper with one corner nearest to you. Fold in the left and right corners to slightly overlap the filling, then tightly roll the bottom corner up to form a pocket. Keep rolling until only the tip of the remaining corner is seen; seal it by brushing with the egg white mixture.
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan until it reaches 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Sear the egg rolls in batches in hot oil until crisp and golden, about 3 to 5 minutes. Place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Enjoy with 1/2 cup of sweet chili sauce.
