Cozy up this winter with juicy steak in red wine sauce over creamy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
  • 4 x 180g beef fillet steaks, trimmed
  • 2 onions, halved, sliced
  • 200g small button mushrooms, trimmed
  • 11.20 gm tomato paste
  • 2 tsp plain flour
  • 250ml red wine
  • 375ml beef stock
  • Mashed potato, to serve
  • Watercress, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Season the steaks and sear for 2 minutes on each side. Finish cooking in the oven for 2-3 minutes for rare or 5 minutes for medium.
  • In the same pan, heat the rest of the oil over medium-low heat. Sauté the onion until softened, about 5 minutes. Introduce garlic and mushrooms, cook for 1-2 minutes. Mix in the paste and flour. Pour in the wine and stock; bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and simmer for about 5-6 minutes, allowing the mixture to reduce. Season to taste.
  • Take the pan off the heat and place the steaks back in to gently warm in the sauce. Serve the steaks and sauce with mashed potatoes and watercress or salad.
