Easy 4-ingredient shortening pie crust recipe creates irresistibly flaky crust for any pie.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening, cut into small pieces and frozen for 30 minutes
  • 0.5 cup ice-cold water, or as needed
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt, then blend in chilled shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture looks like coarse, pea-sized crumbs.
  • Pour in 1/4 cup ice-cold water and stir gently with a fork to incorporate the flour from the bottom. Press down on any clumps while working the dough around the bowl. Gradually add ice-cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together when shaped; you may need up to 4 tablespoons, but be cautious not to overdo it.
  • Gently form dough into two 1-inch-thick discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 days for optimal flavor.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface, handling it gently to avoid overworking.
  • Carefully transfer the dough into a pie plate. If it becomes crumbly or tears, gently pinch and press it back together to maintain its shape.
  • Follow the instructions in your pie recipe.
