Easy, juicy baked whole chicken recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 large onion, halved and sliced
  • 0.25 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 (4 to 6 pound) whole chicken
Instructions:
  • Combine water, ketchup, onion, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, honey, flour, garlic powder, black pepper, and poultry seasoning in an oven-safe Dutch oven. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until flavors meld, around 5 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes before proceeding.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it nice and toasty before baking.
  • Add the chicken to the Dutch oven and generously coat it with the flavorful ketchup mixture. Fill the chicken cavity with 1/4 of the mixture, including the onions. Then, place the chicken breast-side down in the Dutch oven and cover with an oven-proof lid.
  • Bake chicken in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, basting once. Uncover, raise heat to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place the chicken breast-side up in the oven and bake until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes. Allow the chicken to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
