New Jersey-inspired tuna melt: Tuna salad topped with cheese, tomato, and more cheese to prevent sliding.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1.5 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 0.75 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices seedless rye bread
  • 8 slices ripe tomato
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • paprika, for garnish
Instructions:
  • Get the oven broiler nice and hot.
  • Combine the tuna, mayo, celery, onion, parsley, and vinegar in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 1. Arrange rye bread slices on a baking sheet and broil for 1 minute until lightly toasted in the preheated oven. 2. Spread the tuna salad over the toasted bread slices. 3. Layer each piece with 1 cheese slice, a tomato slice, and top with the remaining cheese slices.
  • Place the assembled bread back in the oven, under the broiler for 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is gooey and melted.
