Indulge in homemade cinnamon rolls with a maple glaze that rivals Betty Crocker's. Butter and sweetness combine for a decadent treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 4.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.66666668653488 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon maple-flavored extract
Instructions:
  • Combine warm water and yeast in a bowl, then add 1 teaspoon of sugar and whisk until well mixed. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes until the yeast softens and forms a creamy foam.
  • In a stand mixer bowl, blend together warm milk, 2/3 cup sugar, 2/3 cup melted butter, eggs, and salt. Pour in yeast mixture and mix until fully combined. Gradually add 4 cups of flour on medium speed until dough is smooth, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Place the dough into a spacious bowl. Using your hands, work in the remaining 4 cups of flour until the dough becomes slightly stiff and sticky, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Prepare a clean large bowl by greasing it. Transfer the dough into the greased bowl and make sure it is coated with the grease. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm spot until it has doubled in size, which should take around 1 1/2 hours.
  • Uncover the bowl and gently deflate the dough. Allow the dough to rest for 5 minutes.
  • While the dough is resting, prepare the filling by combining pecans, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • On a generously floured surface, roll out the dough into a 15x20-inch rectangle. Brush the entire surface with the remaining 1/2 cup of melted butter, then sprinkle the filling mixture over it. Roll the dough tightly over the filling from the longer side, pinching the edges to seal. Use dental floss to cut the roll into 18 pieces.
  • Grease the baking dish with melted butter and sprinkle sugar on top.
  • Place the cinnamon rolls, cut-sides up, snugly together in the baking dish. Allow them to rise in a cozy spot for 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake rolls in the oven until beautifully golden brown, for about 25-30 minutes.
  • Once the rolls are in the oven, prepare the glaze by mixing confectioners' sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and maple extract in a bowl until it's smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls.
