Betty's Famous Eggnog

Indulgent old-fashioned eggnog with bourbon, rum, and brandy, topped with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Ingredients:
  • 12 eggs, separated
  • 4.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle bourbon
  • 0.5 (750 milliliter) bottle dark rum
  • 1.5 quarts whipping cream
  • 2 cups half-and-half (or whole milk)
  • 1.5 cups brandy
  • 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg, for garnish
Instructions:
  • In a spacious bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs and sugar until the mixture is thick and pale. Gently fold in the bourbon and rum until the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow the mixture to sit for approximately 1 hour.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  • Combine the whipping cream and half and half into the egg yolk mixture until well combined. Gently mix in the brandy. Carefully fold in the egg whites until evenly incorporated. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving. Can be stored for up to one week.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg in small cups or glasses before serving.
