Japanese black sesame cupcakes - fragrant and flavorful with toasted seeds and paste.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup black sesame seeds, crushed
  • 1.5 sticks salted butter
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons black sesame paste
  • 2.5 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.25 cups milk
Instructions:
  • Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare 2 muffin tins with cupcake liners.
  • Toast sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat, stirring constantly until fragrant, for about 2 minutes. Skip if seeds are pre-toasted.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until creamy. Mix in toasted seeds, eggs, sesame paste, and vanilla extract until combined. Slowly incorporate flour, baking powder, and salt. Pour in milk and beat until well combined.
  • Spoon the batter into the cupcake liners.
  • Bake in the oven until a toothpick inserted into a cupcake comes out clean, for 16-18 minutes.
