Decadent black walnut and cherry strudel with sweet glaze, perfect for sharing in bite-sized portions.
Ingredients:
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag frozen dark cherries
  • 8 ounces chopped black walnuts
  • 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk, or more as needed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Whisk egg and water in a bowl until combined.
  • Mix cream cheese, sugar, and lemon juice in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy.
  • Roll out each puff pastry sheet into a 12x16-inch rectangle. Spread half of the creamy cheese mixture along one long side of each rectangle, leaving a 1-inch border. Layer half of the cherries and half of the walnuts over the cream cheese.
  • Fold the opposite end of each puff pastry over the filling, gently brushing the edges with the egg mixture for a secure seal. Tuck the ends underneath the roll, ensuring the seam is facing down on the baking sheet. Brush the tops of each strudel with the egg mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until beautifully golden, for approximately 35 minutes. Allow the strudels to cool on a wire rack lined with a baking sheet for at least 30 minutes.
  • Mix confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until a smooth glaze forms, then drizzle over the strudels.
