Dinosaur bone birthday treats - perfect for a themed party!
Ingredients:
  • 125g butter, cubed, at room temperature
  • 125g (3/4 cup) icing sugar mixture, sifted
  • 4.40 gm vanilla essence
  • 1 egg
  • 190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour
  • 190g (1 1/4 cups) self-raising flour
  • 1 egg white
  • 195g (1 1/4 cups) pure icing sugar, sifted
  • 5-6 drops red liquid food colouring, to colour
  • 5-6 drops blue liquid food colouring, to colour
  • 1 31g bottle Dinosaur Mix Decors or 90g (1/3 cup) 100's & 1000's, to decorate
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C and line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
  • Use a 2.5 x 11cm bone shape cardboard template, trace it, and cut it out.
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric beater to cream together the butter, icing sugar, and vanilla essence until smooth. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated. Gradually add the plain flour and self-raising flour, then use your hands to form a firm dough.
  • Transfer the dough onto a gently floured surface and knead until it's smooth. Roll out the dough to a 5mm thickness and use a cardboard template along with a sharp knife to cut out 15 bone shapes. Re-roll any remaining dough and repeat the process.
  • Arrange the biscuits in a single layer on the lined trays and refrigerate for 30 minutes to chill.
  • Bake the biscuits in a preheated oven for 15 minutes, swapping trays halfway through, until they are golden brown and fully cooked. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the trays.
  • For the icing, in a medium bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy using a wooden spoon. Slowly incorporate the icing sugar, one spoonful at a time, stirring well after each addition until the mixture is smooth and shiny. Divide the icing equally into 2 small bowls. Mix red coloring into one bowl and blue coloring into the other. Cover both bowls with plastic wrap and set them aside.
  • Spoon pink icing onto 15 biscuits using a teaspoon. Spread icing evenly and tap edges to smooth. Sprinkle half of Dinosaur Mix Decors on top and let set. Repeat with remaining biscuits, using blue icing and rest of Decors.
