Easy bread machine challah recipe yields 2 soft, sweet loaves with a fluffy texture.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2.5 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons bread machine yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Add the warm water, sugar, oil, eggs, honey, salt, flour, and yeast into a bread machine in the order given or as per manufacturer's instructions. Choose the Dough cycle and start the machine.
  • Take the dough out of the machine once the cycle is complete and transfer it to a lightly floured board. Gently press the dough down and allow it to rest for 5 minutes.
  • Prepare a baking tray by greasing it.
  • Divide the dough in half, then divide each half into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into 12- to 14-inch long ropes. Braid 3 ropes into a loaf to create 2 loaves. Place the loaves on the prepared baking tray, mist them with water, and cover loosely with plastic wrap. Allow the loaves to rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Create a glossy egg wash by whisking the egg and water together in a small bowl until fully blended.
  • Use a pastry brush to coat the loaves evenly with the glossy egg wash.
  • Place in the oven that has been preheated and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes. If the loaves start to brown too quickly, simply cover them loosely with aluminum foil.
