Easy and flavorful spelt flour challah made effortlessly in a bread machine, customizable with various toppings.
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 0.25 cup olive oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups white spelt flour
  • 2 cups whole grain spelt flour
  • 4 teaspoons xanthan gum
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
Instructions:
  • Combine water, olive oil, and eggs in the bread machine pan. Add salt, sugar, spelt flours, xanthan gum, and yeast. Place in the bread machine on the dough cycle. Monitor mixing to ensure thorough incorporation, and use a rubber scraper to assist if necessary.
  • Once the dough is ready, divide it into 3 pieces and shape each into an 18-inch rope. Braid the ropes together, seal the tips, fold under the loaf, and place it on a greased baking sheet. Cover with a cloth and let it rise until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), then brush the loaf with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds for a flavorful and crispy finish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until the challah is a beautiful golden brown color and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom, around 40 to 45 minutes.
