Create a festive birthday cake with cake mix, creamy frosting, and gooey marshmallows for a delicious and simple treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ red, yellow and blue gel food colors
  • Tray or cardboard (15x12 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 12 large marshmallows, cut in half crosswise
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease or spray a 13x9-inch pan.
  • Prepare and bake the cake mix according to the instructions on the box for a 13x9-inch pan. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely for about 1 hour. Chill the cake in the refrigerator or freezer for approximately 1 hour until firm.
  • In separate small bowls, color 1 cup of frosting red, 1 cup of frosting yellow, and 2/3 cup of frosting blue with food coloring. Keep the remaining frosting as white.
  • Using a serrated knife, level the top of the cake to create a flat surface. Place the cake cut side down and slice it into three equal sections. Take one of the thirds and cut it in half to form two squares. Arrange the cake pieces on a tray.
  • Cover each square cake with a delicate layer of blue frosting, and each rectangular cake with a delicate layer of white, yellow, and red frosting. Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes until the frosting is set.
  • Apply the last layer of frosting to each cake: Frost 4 marshmallow halves with blue frosting and create a square design on the blue cake. Frost 4 marshmallow halves with white frosting and create a square design on the white cake. Frost 8 marshmallow halves with yellow frosting and place them on the yellow cake. Frost 8 marshmallow halves with red frosting and place them on the red cake. Store the cakes loosely covered.
