Butter Rum-Glazed Applesauce Cake

Indulge in a heavenly applesauce cake with a rum-infused butter glaze using Gold Medal® flour - the perfect sweet treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup butter (do not use margarine)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (do not use margarine)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon rum flavor
  • 3 to 4 teaspoons half-and-half or milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and generously grease an 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat until it just begins to brown, about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in granulated sugar, applesauce, and vanilla.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Mix in the applesauce mixture, then pour the batter into a pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a 1 1/2-quart saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to brown, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the rest of the glaze ingredients until smooth. Pour the glaze over the warm cake, let it cool for 30 minutes, then serve warm.
