Cabbage Balushka or Cabbage and Noodles

Buttery Hungarian cabbage and egg noodles, ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 head cabbage, cored and chopped
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • 1. Fill a large pot with salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add egg noodles and cook until tender but slightly firm, about 5 minutes. Drain well.
  • In a spacious skillet or wok, gently melt butter over medium heat. Stir and cook the onion until caramelized, around 8 minutes.
  • Saute cabbage with onions until cabbage is tender, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Combine the cooked noodles with the cabbage mixture, and season with salt and black pepper to enhance the flavors.
