  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound small shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 0.5 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 8 green onions, minced
Instructions:
  • Combine 1/2 cup of oil, tomato sauce, 1 1/4 cups water, basil, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a large pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then simmer on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Season shrimp generously with a delightful blend of 1/2 teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes; gently mix together and keep aside.
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add green bell pepper, red bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Sauté until slightly softened, for about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in vegetables to the tomato sauce and simmer over medium heat for 3 minutes. Lower the heat and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the seasoned shrimp to the sauce and mix well. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is complete.
  • Combine cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl. Stir this mixture into the sauce during the last 2 minutes of cooking, ensuring it is well incorporated.
  • 1. Boil a large pot of lightly salted water. Cook the pasta until al dente, for about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and transfer to a serving bowl.
  • Drizzle the savory sauce over the delicious pasta and generously sprinkle with fresh green onions.
