Speed up the process with quick-rise yeast for a quick and delicious egg bread.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 cup margarine, melted
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 3 egg, beaten
  • 4.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 7.5 cups bread flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Instructions:
  • Combine warm water, melted margarine, sugar, and beaten eggs in a medium bowl.
  • Combine yeast, salt, and 7 cups of flour in a large bowl, then slowly incorporate liquid ingredients until a cohesive dough forms.
  • Continue kneading the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth, incorporating the remaining flour as needed.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a 3/4-inch thick rope. Braid 3 ropes together. Repeat with the remaining pieces. Place the braided dough on greased cookie sheets. Brush the dough with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds, if desired. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  • Place in a preheated oven at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and bake for 20-30 minutes.
