Elevated classic lasagna with extra cheese for the ultimate comfort food experience.
Ingredients:
  • 27.30 gm olive oil
  • 1kg beef mince
  • 1 large brown onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 91.58 gm tomato paste
  • 780.00 gm fresh tomato sauce (see related recipe)
  • 1 tsp oregano leaves
  • 125.00 ml roughly chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 5 fresh lasagne sheets
  • 250.00 ml grated tasty cheese
  • 50g butter
  • 82.50 ml plain flour
  • 772.50 gm milk
  • 125.00 ml grated tasty cheese
Instructions:
  • In a deep frying pan over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Cook the mince in batches until nicely browned, then transfer to a bowl.
  • Heat the remaining oil in a pan, then add the onion and cook while stirring for 3 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Return the mince to the pan, stir in the tomato paste, and cook to combine. Add tomato sauce and dried oregano, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in basil, and allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
  • Prepare the Cheesy sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add flour and cook while stirring for 2 minutes until the mixture is bubbling. Gradually pour in the milk and continue stirring for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese. Season to taste.
  • Prepare a 10-cup ovenproof dish by greasing it. Layer the bottom with pasta, then spread 1/3 of the mince on top. Add 1/3 cup of cheesy sauce. Repeat these layers, ending with pasta on top. Pour the remaining sauce over the pasta. Allow it to cool before sprinkling with cheese. Cover with plastic wrap followed by foil. Freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Thaw the lasagne in the fridge overnight. Preheat the oven to 160°C (fan-forced) and bake the lasagne for 30-40 minutes until heated through. Let it stand for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
