Try this modern take on a steak sandwich: Thick strips of juicy steak seared to perfection, ensuring a deliciously juicy inside every time.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (2 pound) fully-trimmed flat iron steak
  • salt and pepper
  • 8 ounces brown clamshell mushrooms, grilled, separated
  • 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons barbeque sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise, or as needed
  • 1 cup arugula leaves, or as needed
  • 1 cup quartered cherry tomatoes
Instructions:
  • Prepare the outdoor grill by preheating it to medium-high heat and lightly oiling the grate.
  • Slice the steak into 6 thick strips and generously season with salt and pepper.
  • Grill mushrooms over medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes until they start to wilt, then carefully separate the stem end from the caps.
  • Combine mushrooms with a flavorful mix of salt, pepper, sherry vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil in a bowl, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Grill steaks over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, until cooked to medium rare or preferred doneness. Check with an instant-read thermometer for 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) at the center. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Combine barbeque sauce, cider vinegar, and vegetable oil with a swift whisk until well mixed. Let sit for later use.
  • Top hot dog buns with grilled steaks, mayonnaise, arugula, cherry tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, and barbeque sauce mixture.
