Succulent chicken in tangy tomato herb blend. Perfect with crusty French bread.
Ingredients:
  • 6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, with liquid
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.125 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Coat chicken with the flour mixture. Brown chicken in butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain on paper towels.
  • In the same skillet, mix together tomatoes, water, brown sugar, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Add salt, chili powder, mustard, celery seed, garlic, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and add chicken back to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 35 to 40 minutes until the chicken is tender, fully cooked, and the sauce thickens.
