Crispy apple fritters coated in rich toffee and topped with sesame seeds, a sweet treat with an Asian twist.
Ingredients:
  • 3.5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 apple - peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
  • 0.75 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water, divided
  • oil for frying
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions:
  • Coat apple chunks with flour by gently tossing them in a shallow bowl of flour.
  • In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and 2 teaspoons of water until well mixed, then incorporate the egg.
  • In a large saucepan, heat oil to 320 degrees F (160 degrees C. Dip apple chunks in the cornstarch mixture, then cook in the hot oil until golden brown, approximately 3 minutes. Remove from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate.
  • In a separate saucepan over medium-low heat, melt sugar with 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil and the remaining 1 teaspoon of water until it turns light golden and starts to bubble, about 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in fried apple chunks until well coated with caramel.
  • Place the caramel-coated apple chunks in a large serving dish. Use chopsticks to delicately separate the chunks, creating elegant sugar threads. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a delightful finishing touch.
