Get the kids involved in making a delicious chocolate and fig slice for a fun and tasty kitchen activity.
Ingredients:
  • Melted butter, to grease
  • 1 x 250g pkt plain chocolate biscuits
  • 150g butter, melted
  • 1 x 375g pkt dessert figs (Dessert Maid brand)
  • 1 x 75g pkt toasted flaked almonds
  • 400g good-quality dark chocolate, broken into squares
  • 13.60 gm desiccated coconut
Instructions:
  • Grease an 18 x 28cm slab pan generously with the melted butter. Line the base and sides with non-stick baking paper, ensuring it overhangs the sides for easy removal of the slice.
  • For an easy and fun activity, let the kids place the biscuits in a food processor to crush them finely. Alternatively, they can have a blast placing the biscuits in a sealed bag and crushing them with a rolling pin. Add the butter and blend until combined. Let them spoon the mixture into the pan, then use a thick glass to evenly press it over the pan's base. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Have your little ones use colorful children's scissors to chop the figs into bite-sized pieces. Combine the figs with the almonds in a medium bowl.
  • Melt the chocolate in a small, clean, dry heatproof bowl set over simmering water, making sure the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  • Help your little ones gently spread the melted chocolate over the biscuit base. Mix the remaining chocolate with the fig mixture using a large metal spoon until well combined. Spread the fig mixture over the chocolate layer and use the back of a spoon to make the surface smooth. Sprinkle with coconut on top.
  • Chill the slice in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up. Allow it to rest at room temperature for 10 minutes before cutting into 24 pieces.
