Indulgent gingerbread with chocolate chips, perfected with a decadent sauce for a festive treat.
Ingredients:
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease the bottom of an 8 or 9-inch square pan. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat eggs for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened. Gradually add molasses and sugar, continue beating until well blended.
  • Combine the buttermilk and melted butter, mix thoroughly. Add all remaining gingerbread ingredients, except chocolate chips, beat until smooth. Gently fold in chocolate chips. Pour the batter into a greased pan.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. For an 8-inch pan, bake for 43 to 53 minutes, and for a 9-inch pan, bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before serving.
  • Combine powdered sugar and 1/3 cup butter in a small bowl. Use an electric mixer on low speed to beat until smooth and creamy. Mix in the orange peel and orange juice.
  • Cut the gingerbread into squares, then elegantly arrange them on individual dessert plates. Drizzle approximately 1 tablespoon of sauce over each serving.
