Indulge in decadent chocolate torte: a classic dessert with rich, luscious layers.
Ingredients:
  • 1 bag (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 package (2 1/2 oz) hazelnuts (filberts), finely chopped, toasted (2/3 cup)
  • 1 bag (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream or hazelnut-flavored nondairy liquid creamer
  • Whole or chopped hazelnuts, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans. In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup butter, stirring constantly. Let cool for 5 minutes, then mix in flour until smooth. Blend in egg yolks until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, whip the egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating one tablespoon at a time until soft peaks form. Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the egg whites, then fold in the toasted hazelnuts. Spread the batter evenly in the pans.
  • Bake for approximately 25 minutes until the cake tops look dry and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool for 5 minutes, then run a knife around the sides to loosen them from the pan, and transfer them to a cooling rack. Gently peel off the waxed paper and let the cakes cool completely.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt 2 cups of chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of butter over low heat, stirring constantly. Once melted, remove from heat and mix in whipping cream. Chill for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick enough to hold its shape when spooned. If it thickens too much, microwave for 10 to 15 seconds on High to soften.
  • Place one delightful cake layer on a beautiful serving plate and generously spread 2/3 cup of the luscious filling. Then, gently add the remaining cake layer on top. Remember to keep 2 tablespoons of the filling aside for a special touch at the end. Now, expertly frost the sides and top of the cake with the remaining filling. To create a stunning finishing touch, drizzle the cake with the 2 tablespoons of reserved filling. If needed, simply microwave the filling for 5 to 10 seconds to achieve the perfect drizzling consistency. Finally, elegantly garnish the cake with hazelnuts and enjoy!
