Chocolate-Filled Russian Tea Cakes

Decadent chocolate-filled cookies dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 48 milk chocolate stars (from 14-oz bag)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon red sugar
  • 1 tablespoon green sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, mix butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Then, on low speed, mix in flour, salt, and walnuts.
  • Wrap a scant measuring tablespoon of dough around a chocolate star to form a 1-inch ball for each cookie, then place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until set and bottoms start to turn golden brown. In a small bowl, combine sugar coating ingredients.
  • Once the cookies are out of the oven, gently coat them with sugar. Let them cool on racks for about 30 minutes, then give them another roll in the sugar coating for extra sweetness.
