Create irresistible star-studded cookies with just five simple ingredients.
Ingredients:
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon unsweetened baking cocoa
  • About 1/3 cup ground walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 275° F and prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar with an electric mixer until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff and glossy. Gently fold in cocoa until streaks remain in the batter.
  • Using a decorating bag fitted with a large star tip (#4), pipe 1 1/4-inch stars onto a cookie sheet. Lightly sprinkle with walnuts and brush off any excess nuts from the sheet.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the outside is crisp and dry with a soft inside. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Store in an airtight container.
