Festive holiday cookies adorned with red and green sugar.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons Betty Crocker™ Decors red sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Betty Crocker™ Decors green sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine red sugar with 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside. Mix green sugar with the remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon in another small bowl and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, blend together sugar, shortening, butter, and eggs until creamy using an electric mixer or mix with a spoon. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Roll the dough into 3/4-inch balls, coat them in a sugar-cinnamon mixture, and then place them about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the centers are almost set. Allow to cool for 1 minute, then transfer from the cookie sheet to a wire rack. Let them cool completely for about 30 minutes.
