Indulge in creamy mac and cheese loaded with sharp Cheddar and topped with buttery crumbs.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 0.25 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 0.5 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1.5 pounds extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 pinch paprika, or to taste
  • 0.5 cup soft bread crumbs
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a cozy 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously butter a 2-quart casserole dish.
  • In a large pot, dissolve salt in water and bring to a boil. Cook macaroni, stirring often, until slightly firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Rinse macaroni under cool water, drain, then transfer to a bowl. Mix in 1/4 cup softened butter, tossing to melt and coat the macaroni.
  • In a bowl, beat eggs and whisk in evaporated and condensed milks.
  • Create a savory masterpiece by alternating layers of macaroni and Cheddar cheese in the casserole dish. Finish with a generous sprinkle of paprika. Carefully pour the egg-milk mixture over the layers, then use a fork to allow the mixture to seep into every delicious layer.
  • In a small skillet over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of butter. Stir in bread crumbs and cook in the butter until fragrant and golden, about 2 to 3 minutes. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the casserole.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is golden brown and bubbly, approximately 45 minutes.
